The performance art form, consisting of sequences of human movement, also known as dance, has played a significant role in human culture throughout the history. From the cave carvings found in France to the crowded streets in Brazil, dance has been embedded in the daily routine of everybody. As a direct result, some suggest , it is worthwhile to teach it at schools as part of their curriculum
Naysayers project their respective disagreement to the above-mentioned, by stating that dance is not practical and possesses a zero functionality in adults’ daily life: it, simply, is a luxury which has no effect on their well-being. Thus rendering its arbitrary insertion in school curricula something utterly out of the question
The advocates, however, take a different approach with a distinct mentality: the entire entity of dance is not only physically but also mentally and spirituality of paramount benefit to everyone, young children and teenagers included. Choreographic movements delicately coordinate the motions related to neurological gestures, hence resulting in a healthier body. They also site some neuro-physical scientists as considering dance to be getting the upper hand in either improving the heart performance or the muscle tenacity compared to other exercises. Dance, they also deeply hold, makes the pupils sociable because it forces them to interact with their peers. They carry on coming to the conclusion that the number of hours spent on physical therapy and sports in adulthood is untold. The amount of money spent on these is also huge: so why not enhancing them by a much lower budget at the school
The above-mentioned scenarios and arguments, all in all, shall oblige me to take side with the latter: those agreeing with having dance as a school subject. I wholeheartedly agree with my child(in this case: ANY child) having a “dance and choreography” course at school due to its numerous physical, mental and social advantages quoted above
